Maintain Healthy Teeth and Gums with Dental Hygiene

Both natural teeth and teeth with restorations survive best in an oral environment that is clean.

Our dental hygiene program is designed to help prevent new cavities, preserve teeth that have been restored and manage periodontal (gum) disease. A professional teeth cleaning should be done at least every 6 months to maintain optimal oral health.

Watch for these warning signs

If you or someone you know has any of the following signs encourage them to see a dentist right away because they could have gum disease:

  • Red, swollen or tender gums
  • Gums that have recessed or pulled away from the teeth
  • Gums that bleed during brushing or flossing
  • Persistent bad breath
  • Teeth that are loose or separating
  • A change in the way the teeth fit together
  • Pus between the teeth and gums.

Gum disease can be prevented. Regular checkups are the best way to ensure that any form of gum disease is not present or for stopping gum disease in its early stages before it causes bigger problems.

Periodontal (Gum) Disease is More Common than You Think

Periodontal (gum) disease is very common. In fact, research indicates that 80 percent of adults in this country have some stage of gum disease and most of them don’t even know it.

Unfortunately, gum disease has few symptoms until it’s in an advanced stage where infection and bone loss are occurring. When an infection develops in the mouth it not only affects the mouth but can spread to other parts of the body affecting one’s overall health.

When you have a checkup and teeth cleaning every 6 months the result is healthy teeth and gums and a sparkling smile.

Success Story

I hadn’t been to a dentist for 15 years because I just didn’t think it was important. The result was that I bad breath, which I didn’t realize until my family told me. I really wanted to handle my bad breath so I made an appointment immediately. Within one visit and having a cleaning done I had a great result and no longer have bad breath.

I decided that I will go to the dentist every 3 to 6 months for a check-up and cleaning as I now understand that not doing this can be very detrimental to my health. The hygienist who helped me was so kind and patient and answered all my questions. Oh my goodness, the service was beyond a 10. J.M.

I have been with this dental office for years. From the moment I entered the office and they provided me with a questionnaire with items such as: what has your experience been with dentists in the past and what is your comfort level I WAS HOOKED! I have had regular cleanings there as well as several procedures and they have always taken good care of me. An elementary school teacher wouldn’t lie. T. H.
