Maintain Healthy Teeth and Gums with Dental Hygiene

Whether you have all your natural teeth or some dental restorations, it is vital to keep your mouth clean and healthy. The professionals at Bay Dental Center will teach you and your children to properly care for your teeth with regular flossing, brushing and rinsing. Yes, there is a “right” way, and we will show you how!

Professional Cleanings

Our dental hygiene program is designed to help prevent new cavities, preserve teeth that have been restored and manage periodontal (gum) disease. A professional teeth cleaning should be done at least every 6 months to maintain optimal oral health.

Periodontal (Gum) Disease is More Common than You Think

What we check for during exams and cleanings is not only dental cavities. In fact, periodontal (gum) disease is very common and can have a major impact on your health overall. Research indicates that 80 percent of adults in this country have some stage of gum disease and most of them don’t even know it.

Unfortunately, many people ignore the symptoms of gum disease until advanced stages, when infection and bone loss have already occurred. When an infection develops in the mouth, it can spread to other parts of the body and even compromise your cardiovascular health.

Watch for these warning signs

Professional cleaning and proper dental hygiene at home will help to prevent gum disease. But, if you or a family member has any of the following symptoms, it’s important to see a dentist right away to assess your risk for periodontal disease:

  • Red, swollen or tender gums
  • Gums that have recessed or pulled away from the teeth
  • Gums that bleed during brushing or flossing
  • Persistent bad breath
  • Teeth that are loose or separating
  • A change in the way the teeth fit together
  • Pus between the teeth and gums.

Gum disease can be prevented. Regular checkups are the best way to rule out gum disease or to stop it in its early stages before it causes bigger problems.

Success Stories

I hadn’t been to a dentist for 15 years because I just didn’t think it was important. The result was that I bad breath, which I didn’t realize until my family told me. I really wanted to handle my bad breath so I made an appointment immediately. Within one visit and having a cleaning done I had a great result and no longer have bad breath.

I decided that I will go to the dentist every 3 to 6 months for a check-up and cleaning as I now understand that not doing this can be very detrimental to my health. The hygienist who helped me was so kind and patient and answered all my questions. Oh my goodness, the service was beyond a 10. J.M.

I have been with this dental office for years. From the moment I entered the office and they provided me with a questionnaire with items such as: what has your experience been with dentists in the past and what is your comfort level I WAS HOOKED! I have had regular cleanings there as well as several procedures and they have always taken good care of me. An elementary school teacher wouldn’t lie. T. H.
