When you are missing most or all of your teeth, dentures are an affordable solution to restore full functioning to your mouth. Missing teeth may cause you to lose mass in your jaw bones, causing your facial muscles to sag. Dentures are custom made for you after your dentist takes impressions and X-rays of your mouth. The images are sent to a dental lab where your custom denture will be made.

Conventional

A conventional denture is placed about six months after all of your teeth have been removed. This waiting period gives your jaw bones a chance to heal. The conventional denture is considered to be a permanent denture. It is removable, and you will take it out to clean it and when you go to sleep at night. Every few years, your denture may need to have a new lining placed as the shape of your jaw bone changes.

Immediate

An immediate denture is placed in your mouth as soon as your teeth are removed. This allows you to eat, chew, and smile with confidence. Immediate dentures do not fit as precisely as conventional ones. As your jaws heal, they may change shape slightly. Your immediate denture may need some fine-tuning after the healing process.

Overdenture or Partial Denture

An overdenture or partial denture may be an option if you still have some of your upper or lower teeth. These appliances are bonded to your remaining teeth so that they are fixed in place. They are also sometimes referred to as a dental bridge. These structures consist of a metal framework that has a piece of plastic that holds artificial tooth crowns.
